The CURE research team focuses on advancing personalised medicine by integrating regenerative medicine with precise, non-invasive diagnostics.

The goal is to develop therapeutic and diagnostic solutions tailored to each patient’s individual characteristics, based on reliable biological data and real clinical needs.

The project’s main focus is the development of regenerative therapies, which use cells and extracellular vesicles. At the same time, the group is conducting research into modern diagnostics for urological cancers, such as identification of biomarkers or metabolomic and volatomic analyses of urine. By focusing on development and research, the team’s methods are a single, cohesive process aimed at achieving set outcomes: therapeutic products, treatment protocols, diagnostic tools, technologies ready for implementation.

Marta Pokrywczyńska

Bio:

Marta Pokrywczyńska is a Full Professor and the Head of the Department of Regenerative Medicine, Cell and Tissue Bank and ATMP Manufacture (Faculty of Medicine), Collegium Medicum, NCU. She is the president of the ‘Axolotl’ Association for the Development of Regenerative Medicine and of the NCU spin-off company Stem Cell Therapies.

Professor Pokrywczyńska has coordinated and participated in numerous national and international research projects funded by the Polish National Science Centre (NCN), the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR), the Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education (MNiSW), the Medical Research Agency (ABM), and the Foundation for Polish Science (FNP).

Professor Pokrwyczyńska’s research focuses on bridging fundamental discoveries with clinical implementation by developing innovative cell-and tissue-based therapies for patients with complex urological disorders. Her scientific work integrates stem cell biology, extracellular vesicles, biomaterials, tissue engineering, and GMP-compliant manufacturing to create next-generation regenerative therapies for urinary tract reconstruction and functional restoration.

A major focus of her research is the development and clinical translation of Advanced Therapy Medicinal Products (ATMPs) designed to address unmet needs in urology, including stress urinary incontinence, urinary bladder reconstruction, urethral regeneration, and other conditions requiring regenerative solutions. She develops personalized cell-based medicinal products manufactured according to European Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) standards, enabling the transition of laboratory discoveries into first-in-human clinical applications.

Professor Pokrwyczyńska has pioneered preclinical and translational studies investigating mesenchymal stromal cells, biomaterial scaffolds, extracellular matrices, and engineered tissues for urinary bladder regeneration. Her research has significantly advanced the understanding of tissue remodeling, regenerative mechanisms, and the optimization of cellular therapies for reconstructive urology.
Her work is driven by scientific curiosity, a commitment to evidence-based innovation, and the pursuit of solutions that improve human health and quality of life.

In June 2026 Professor Pokrywczyńska received the Socius Honoris Causa title awarded by the Polish Urological Association, bestowed upon scientists of most merit in the field of urology.
