For DigiTech4SELE, digital technologies, such as AI, the Internet of Things, Big Data, and blockchain, are not merely technical tools. They are phenomena to be viewed through various lenses, as they increasingly shape people’s everyday experiences, social relations, organisational strategies, and business models.

The research team’s focus is on developing a universal model that explains the mechanisms by which digital technologies influence individuals, communities, and institutions – moderated by laws and ethics.

The DigiTech4SELE research group aims to conduct multifaceted analyses on how new technologies transform societies and communication, in particular how they impact people with disabilities and groups at risk. Moreover, the aim is to determine when technologies support innovation and development, and when they generate new risks, or how they impact social, cultural, legal and ethical norms, as well as our understanding of responsibility, justice, autonomy and human dignity.

Michał Polasik

Bio:

Michał Polasik is an Associate Professor at NCU and the Head of the Department of Digital Economy and Finance, the Institute of Economics and Finance at the Faculty of Economic Sciences and Management. He is also the Director of the Centre for Digital Economy and Finance. Professor Polasik is the author and co-author of over 50 publications (as of June 2026) on digital banking, as well as retail payments. He has been involved with many projects funded by both the EU, and Polish science centres, such as “An analysis of the factors determining the development of electronic retail payments in Poland” or PayTechImpact.EU.

Professor Polasik’s research interests include payment systems, online and mobile banking, economies of scale and networks, central bank digital currency (CBDC), cryptocurrencies, biometrics, digitalisation of the economy.
