On June 19th 2026, the Toruń Interaction Lab (TIL) research team hosted Dr. Angelo Delliponti and Eliza Wessel (MA) from the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. Researchers organised a workshop on the use of OVA - Online Visualisation of Argument.
The session introduced participants to the use of OVA, a tool designed for the analysis and graphical representation of argumentation. Led by researchers in argumentation theory and computational approaches to discourse, the session provided both a theoretical and practical overview of the platform.
Participants were shown how OVA is grounded in Inference Anchoring Theory (IAT), a framework that connects the inferential structure of arguments, such as premises, conclusions, and reasoning patterns, with the dialogical and illocutionary aspects of communication. Through guided training and hands-on annotation activities, attendees gained experience in constructing argument maps and making explicit the relations between propositions, logical structure, and speech acts.
The workshop also highlighted the relevance of these methods across disciplines, including linguistics, cognitive science, argumentation studies, and argument mining.
