Nicolaus Copernicus University’s interdisciplinary research team was awarded a gold medal at the 19th International Invention and Innovation Contest INTARG 2026 for the HiSto-JET project (High Surface, High Storage Natural Gagat for Advanced Next-Generation Energy Storage).
The HiSto-JET project addresses the growing demand for efficient, eco-friendly, and cost-effective energy storage solutions. The developed material is characterized by a highly developed porous structure and a large specific surface area, which enables the efficient accumulation and transport of electrical charge. By combining natural jet with graphene, the researchers have succeeded in creating lightweight, durable, and high-performance electrodes with a wide range of potential applications, particularly in flow batteries and supercapacitors.
The awarded gold medal confirms the high level of research conducted at NCU in Toruń, and the implementation potential of the developed technology. The success of the HiSto-JET project highlights the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration in the development of modern materials for sustainable energy.
The research was funded as part of the LIDER XIII project of the National Centre for Research and Development (NCBR).
